All Day I Dream About Cake: A Deliciously Playful Take on Male Nude Photography
Photographer Joee Vee is serving up more than a mouthful in his latest collection of stacked images featuring all sorts of delectable cakes.
Photographer Joee Vee has a flair for making homoeroticism look particularly appetizing in his collection of nude portraiture books, such as "All Day I Dream About Pizza." Now, in his latest release, "All Day I Dream About Cake."
Following the success of his first food-themed book, Joee continues his creative exploration of the male form — this time accompanied by one of life's sweetest pleasures. In this exclusive feature, he shares his journey, artistic inspirations, and the details behind his latest project, which features cake in its various and delicious forms.
As you might have guessed, Joee's newest coffee table book captures nude men posing with some of New York City's most famous slices, mixing indulgence and intimacy into a unique visual experience.
A Passion for Photography, A Love for Community
Joee Vee's path into photography may have started as a necessity, but this experience unexpectedly became a lifelong pursuit of creative self-exploration.
When reflecting on his early experience behind a camera, he says, "My interest in photography began in high school when I had to take an art class to graduate. At the time, I fell in love with developing my images in the darkroom. Never thinking it would lead to a career in photography, especially one where I would be photographing gorgeous, nude men daily."
Born and raised in Connecticut, Joee went on to study Studio Art in college with a concentration in photography. While many artists we interview reflect on the tumultuous relationship between their home environment and their art or identity, Joee is one of the fortunate few to find peace within his family.
His Italian, Irish, and Polish heritage fostered a deep sense of family and community, and he credits this foundation with helping him embrace his identity as a male physique photographer working closely within the gay community. "I am very blessed that my family was very supportive when I came out, and I do believe this has allowed me to truly embrace my career," he says.
The Evolution of a Mouthwatering Concept
"All Day I Dream About Cake" is part of a larger creative series with an assortment of delicious potential installments in which Joee celebrates two of his loves — New York City's most iconic foods through the male nude form.
His first book in the series, “All Day I Dream About Pizza,” introduced his concept of blending seductive imagery with food nostalgia, and the next logical step? Joee says, "Cake was next mainly because of the innuendo of the word, especially in the gay community, and also because it has become a staple when visiting NYC."
Featuring 152 pages of stunning photography, the book showcases models from worldwide indulging in slices from legendary bakeries like Carlo's Bakery and Magnolia Bakery. Each page highlights the men and the desserts, offering a visual and culinary guide to NYC's best sweet spots.
